Rabbi Shmuley Fails To Defend My Critics of The Republican Jewish Coalition

This morning on Talkline communications - A Saturday night Jewish Radio program hosted by Zev Brenner -  I had the honor to debate non other than Rabbi Shmuley Boteach.

Rabbi Shmuley, initially called in to respond to my criticism of the Republican Jewish Coalition as an organization that has failed the Jewish community, and for their misconduct in convening a leadership convention last week Shabbos. But other than defending the RJC, Rabbi Shmuley diverted the debate into a personal attack on me, accusing me of unethical violations for reporting out of a closed meeting with Netanyahu's advisor last week.

VIN Follows Press Release Lead In Leaving Out Speaker Quinn's Role From Child Care Credit Legistlation

Hypocrisy at large? Yesterday Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Senator Simcha Felder announced legislation that will expand the child care tax credit to middle-class families earning up to $170,000. The Middle Class Child Care Tax Credit will expand the credit that is currently only offered to families who make $25,000 or less.

“We must rein in the skyrocketing cost of child care and make it affordable for all New Yorkers,” said Speaker Christine C. Quinn. “The Middle-Class Child Care Tax Credit will ease the cost of childcare in New York City— the highest in the nation— and will provide expanded assistance to low-income and middle-class parents with young children, and I thank Senator Felder and Assembly Member Farrell for sponsoring this important legislation.”

“That’s real money in the pockets of New Yorkers at a time when, more than ever, every penny counts,” said state Sen. Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn), who is sponsoring the bill in Albany. The expanded tax credit will cost an estimated $62 million in public money, the New York Post reports.

Netanayhu Closest Advisor, Ron Dermer: 'Netanyahu Is A Hell Of A Captain At The Helm'

Barak Ravid reports based on video I filmed of the event: Ron Dermer, a diplomatic advisor consultant to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and candidate for the post of Israeli ambassador to Washington, told a closed meeting of U.S. Jewish leaders in New York last week that the Boston marathon bombings would increase American support for Israel - just as that support increased following the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

"The bulk of the American people stand firmly with Israel and identify with Israel," Dermer said, in a video filmed by blogger Jacob Kornbluh. "If you can look, historically, there was a big change after 9/11, and I am sure that after the tragic bombing in Boston, people will identify more with Israel and its struggle against terrorism and we can maintain that support."

My NYC Elects Editorial On Bill de Blasio's Wrongful Attack On Member Items

(NYC Elects Editorial). This morning, Public Advocate and mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio called for a permanent end to the member items doled out by the City Council.De Blasio conceded that he distributed member items to organizations in his district during his eight years on the Council, but chose to focus instead on the time since he had graduated to public advocate."When I was in the City Council, people weren't going to jail," he said. "And the problem has gotten worse and worse."

"I do not think this is a reason to conclude that member items should not be given," Quinn responded today."In the case of Dan Halloran, this senior citizen group did nothing wrong," she continued. "Why should they become the victim of an alleged criminal's activities?"

Which brought us to take this opportunity and pen a call, on behalf of the various continents who might find this troubling, to Mr. de Blasio, in the form of a letter.
